The second volume (Tomus II) of the critical edition of Peter Lombard's Sententiarum libri quatuor, containing Books III (On the Incarnation of the Word) and IV (On the Sacraments and Last Things). Edited and published by the Collegium Sancti Bonaventurae at Quaracchi near Florence in 1916, this second edition was revised against ancient manuscripts. It is the standard scholarly critical text of the Sentences used by modern researchers.

Distinction 25: On Those Ordained by Heretics and Simoniacs

Distinctio Vigesima Quinta: De Ordinatis ab Haereticis et Simoniacis

Lombard's Distinctio XXV of Book IV of the Sentences addresses ordinations performed by heretics and simoniacs. Chapter I asks whether orders conferred by heretics are valid. Chapter II provides the foundational definition of simony — buying or selling sacred things, named after Simon Magus — and Chapters III–V distinguish who counts as a simoniac, whether buying material rather than spiritual goods is excused, and the tripartite classification of simoniacs derived from Nicholas I. Chapter VI addresses those forcibly ordained by simoniacs; Chapter VII closes with the canonical age requirement for ordination.
