Commentary on the Fourth Book of the Sentences by Peter of Palude (Petrus de Palude, c. 1275–1342), Dominican theologian and Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem. This 1552 Salamanca edition, printed by Andreas à Portonariis, was edited by F. Vincentius of Haarlem, who collated manuscript sources, added passages missing from earlier editions, and inserted interlinear reference numbers keyed to an alphabetical index and to newly appended concordances with the Summa of St. Thomas Aquinas. The commentary covers the sacraments, marriage, penance, orders, and last things, engaging closely with Thomist positions. This Google Books scan is missing printed pages 49–88.

Peter of Palude's full treatment of Distinction 25 in his commentary on the Fourth Book of the Sentences, covering all five questions. Question I asks whether all bishops — including heretics and those cut off from the Church — can confer orders, treating the sacramental power of order as distinct from jurisdictional standing. Question II concerns the proper times for ordinations, with conclusions on canonical ages, ordination days, and the obligation of benefice-holders to receive orders. Question III addresses impediments to holy orders in general — including sex (women cannot be ordained), age, and bodily defect. Question IV asks whether the Pope can commit simony, arguing from the will-based nature of the sin and distinguishing penal from moral dimensions. Question V examines the essence of simony and its three species — munus a manu, munus a lingua, and munus ab obsequio — and discusses when transactions involving sacred things, relics, burial, patronage rights, and benefices become simoniacal.
